He said the soldier shown doing this noble deed (21-year-old Paul Large) died in the battle so he couldn't have told anyone about it. At the time, Dr Grandin was Flight Lieutenant Bob Grandin.

One reads: "This Avenue was planted to perpetuate the memory of Private Paul Large, 6th RAR and formerly of Coolah and seventeen of his fellow servicemen who were killed in Vietnam on 18th August 1966". This plaque and the large stone on which it was affixed was provided by the Coolah Shire Council.

Paul left Australia on the 6th of June 1966: his 21st birthday. 6RAR was based at Nui Dat in the Phouc Tuy province of South Vietnam and conducted cordon and search operations in the surrounding villages against the Viet Cong.
